Non-Surgical Eye Rejuvenation
There has been a major shift in the way we evaluate and treat the lower eyelid region. In contrast to more traditional concepts of how the lower eyelid region ages, which focuses on fat and skin excess, our modern approach recognizes that loss of volume is a major contributor to the aged and tired appearance of the lower eyelid. In traditional treatment approaches, in which the skin, muscle and fat were removed, the lower eyelid would often end up looking gaunt and hollow. But more importantly, the eyes did not look refreshed or rejuvenated.
Today, we focus on replenishing the volume back to the eyes. This essentially restores the lower lids and gives the eyes a youthful and rejuvenated appearance.
When the changes are limited to the tear trough deformity (defined as the trough-like hollowing that occurs between the eye and nose), the treatment is focused on filling the tear trough. This tear trough deformity is possibly one of the most important contributing factors to the aged lower eyelid. It results in a tired and aged appearance. It can start as early as late 20s and mid 30's. Treatment of this region is essential when creating a healthy, well-rested, and youthful look.
Often, a filler such as Restylane or Juvederm can be used to fill this hollowing. This is commonly termed a Non-Surgical Eye-Lift or Liquid Eyelift. This is a technically demanding treatment and truly requires both significant experience and a detailed understanding of the normal anatomy of this region. An understanding of anatomy is not only required to achieve a natural result but also to avoid unwanted complications that can affect this delicate region.
When injected well, the results can make the individual look significantly more rested (even if they are not) and youthful. The results of injection in this region can last up to 1 year or more.
