Creating individualized rhinoplasty results that honor your heritage
Throughout the history of plastic surgery, doctors created results that mainly accommodated clients of Western heritage—Caucasian patients who when it came to rhinoplasty, were mostly seeking hump reduction and tip refinement.
Today, sensibilities have evolved to recognize that each ethnicity has its own unique characteristics, and no one nose job fits all. Being of multicultural heritage himself, Dr. Karam is finely attuned to the needs of his patients with diverse backgrounds, and has a wide and deep grasp of their anatomies that informs his exquisitely detailed results.
Our ethnic rhinoplasty in San Diego is a procedure that seeks to honor and preserve cultural and racial identity while still working to reduce aesthetic flaws that detract from one’s beauty and self-confidence. Ethnic rhinoplasty can also address functional and structural issues of the nose in tandem with creating more appealing contours.
Dr. Karam works with African Americans, Native Americans, Asians, Middle Eastern clients, Latino/Hispanic clients, as well as those of mixed ethnic heritages.
Our ethnic rhinoplasty in California is performed under general anesthesia at our conveniently located San Diego outpatient center. This facility offers all the same strict safety protocols and cutting edge technology as any local hospital, but with more convenience, personalized attention and privacy. On hand to assist you is our compassionate, knowledgeable staff who will go the extra mile to ensure your experience is rewarding and stress-free.
Dr. Karam will choose to perform a closed rhinoplasty, with the incision inside the nose, or an open procedure, with the incision at the base of nose where it is inconspicuous to the eye. He is well versed in both techniques, and will simply chose the one that is most responsive to the patient’s needs and anatomy.
Once the incision is made, the doctor will begin the process of reshaping the nose’s bones and cartilage. In cases where a reduction is indicated, he will excise tissue and sand down the dorsal hump. Other times, such as with Asian rhinoplasty, the doctor may need to perform an augmentation using fat grafting.
Recovery will vary significantly from patient to patient based on individual patterns of healing, as well as on the intricacy of the work done, and on whether any other treatments are performed in tandem with the ethnic rhinoplasty in San Diego, such as chin augmentation or facial rejuvenation.
Since the procedure requires general anesthesia, you will need a friend or family member to drive you home after your surgery. Dr. Karam will provide you with adequate pain medications and a detailed aftercare plan. Your nose will be quite swollen, and the doctor will pack the nose and put it in a splint.
About a week after your cosmetic surgery in San Diego, the splint will be removed, and you can begin planning to return to work and normal activities. Within about six weeks, the majority of your swelling will have subsided, and you will begin to appreciate the nose’s new appearance. At 18 months post-op, all swelling will have gone away, and your nose will have achieved its final shape and size.
As a surgeon who has focused his practice and training on facial surgery as well as facial rejuvenation, Dr. Karam has a sophisticated artistic sensibility when it comes to aesthetics of the nose, and is able to create outstanding results for his multicultural clients. He is highly sensitive to those who wish to retain their identities while improving their weak spots.
Dr. Karam pursues a holistic approach to all his treatments, and in the case of rhinoplasty, this is especially important, as the nose must complement and blend well with the other features.
When necessary, Dr. Karam may make use of other procedures such as cheek and chin augmentation, lip augmentation or blepharoplasty to achieve a more comprehensive transformation, especially with his aging clients.
Dr. Karam is one of the kindest and friendliest surgeons in San Diego, California and beyond, and he usually sets even the most anxious of patients at ease right away. Once you set up your confidential consultation with the doctor, he can meet with you to answer all your questions in depth, including those regarding costs, financing and insurance; risks and possible complications; recovery and downtime; and what kind of results you can anticipate.
During your first session, Dr. Karam will examine your nose, take photographs and delve into your medical history. It’s important to let him know if you’ve undergone any cosmetic surgeries in the past, and if you are currently taking any medications.
Once the doctor and you have discussed your goals, he will create a personalized plan of action for achieving those outcomes and then will walk you through the surgery.
Looking at before and after photography from Dr. Karam’s ethnic rhinoplasty patients is a great way to determine if your needs will be met with surgery. Dr. Karam may also employ our advanced 3D imaging system to further project your outcomes so as to give you the best ethnic rhinoplasty California has to offer.
