One of the procedures that I have been most excited about lately is the lip lift. The lip lift is a procedure that addresses the overall lengthening of the upper lip which can happen either as a result of aging in some cases
genetics. This results in an upper lip that shows more white lip than red lip. Also the teeth begin to become more covered by the upper lips. This results in less upper teeth show.
People have mentioned over the years how they notice their upper lip getting longer with time, however, not until recently when the surgical techniques to correct this have evolved to a point where the lip can be shortened and essentially no visible scar is left behind. This was the tipping point for me.
Most clients take a week off and then are ready to return to their normally scheduled activities. All swelling should subside within six weeks, but you will be able to start enjoying your results within a few days of your procedure.
As we age, it is natural to experience a loss of volume and definition in the lip area, creating an elongated upper lip. This progression results in an upper lip that sinks lower, covering the teeth when you smile, or creating an overlong space between upper lip and nose. As a result, you may appear to be older than you really are.
Cosmetically, an elongated upper lip is very common. It can be corrected with a lip lift, a minor surgical procedure. Lip lift surgical techniques have advanced in recent years allowing for the lip to be shortened with virtually no visible scar left behind.
The results can take years off your appearance. A relatively simple procedure, a lip lift can have a significant impact on the youthful look of your face as well as its overall beauty.
The goal of the lip lift is to rejuvenate and refresh your facial appearance, restoring a fresh, vital look, rather than altering it.
Our lip lift is performed under local anesthesia or IV sedation at our San Diego outpatient facility. With this technique, patients are comfortable and moderately sedated. Most patients choose this method to avoid any of the risks associated with general anesthesia.
At Carmel Valley Facial Plastic Surgery in San Diego, our medical center comes with all the same advanced technology and state-of-the-art equipment as any local hospital but offers greater convenience, privacy, and personalized attention. Every patient is a top priority with us. Our caring, experienced team is devoted to your surgical success.
Experiencing swelling, bruising, redness and tenderness is normal. Pain is tolerable, but for any discomfort, Dr. Karam will prescribe medication. A cold compress may be applied to the area to help with the initial swelling. We recommend you sleep with your head slightly elevated and you get plenty of rest to aid in your recovery.
Patients can expect one to two weeks for the stitches and redness to subside as well as most of the swelling. After approximately two weeks, you will be able to resume all of your normal activities.
The results are fuller, more youthful lips and a more appealing and attractive smile.
