Resculpting the lips to achieve your perfect smile

While the majority of clients seek to augment their lips, there are those who suffer from the opposite problem: lips that are too voluminous, disproportionate and swollen-looking. When this is the case, our surgical lip reduction in San Diego can beautifully recontour the lower face, creating a more proportionate and balanced appearance.

Other times, overly prominent lips may even cause functional problems. Lips that are too large may be a result of poor genes, but may also occur as a byproduct of an overzealous plastic surgeon that created a bloated, unrealistic aesthetic by mistake. It may also result from trauma or placement of product that is permanent but unsightly.

How is the procedure performed?

In general, clients undergo our San Diego lip reduction procedure while being sedated with local anesthesia. The total treatment time is approximately an hour and a half, although this may vary depending on if other cosmetic procedures are being performed in tandem.

Dr. Karam will first make an incision within the inside of the lip, ensuring all scarring is inconspicuous and hidden from view. He will then excise a previously agreed upon amount of lip tissue, suturing the wounds with dissolvable stitches.

On average, San Diego lip reduction clients can expect to rest and recover for 7-10 days while swelling subsides. Dr. Karam will check on you and schedule several follow up visits, in addition to sending you home with detailed aftercare instructions on everything from painkillers to eating and drinking.
